Northminster is opening to the future by embarking on an exciting building program. We are opening the door to our future as a congregation. We are opening our doors to the neighborhood.
We are opening ourselves to God's Spirit and guidance. We are opening our lives to the future. Therefore, our capital campaign motto is Open To the Future. We are excited about what is to come and we hope you are too!
This is the main page for our capital campaign, linking you to useful information about the campaign. From this page you will find detailed architectural information, important campaign dates, and videos highlighting aspects of why we need a capital campaign.

03/21/2008 - Building Committee News
Last Tuesday night the Building Committee selected Wurster Construction Co. as Construction Manager/General Contractor for the additions and alterations to our building. Wurster Construction will be working with URS Architects to move ahead with a demolition contract next month to prepare the north properties for a new parking lot. While that is happening, they will be taking sub bids for all the new construction and renovation work which will follow.

It's Going to Be Boring Before it Gets Exciting.
Our architect, URS, has requested bids and has since recommended that we use Alt & Witzig Engineering to bore four test sites for samples. These samples will all be 25 feet deep. Three will be along the sidewalk by our parking lot and one will be on the north side located near the new entrance. Each sample is to be reviewed on the day of drilling, with the intention of having the holes filled back in by the end of the day.
Why the boring? There are several reason, but the two primary reasons:
Determination of the general subsurface soil, rock, and groundwater.
Determination of the engineering characteristics of the subsurface materials encountered.
Alt & Witzig Engineering hopes to drill this Tuesday or Wednesday (3-11 or 3-12). Drilling is dependent on the utilities being found and marked, plus weather can have a factor.
02/29/2008 - Interview with the Building Committee Chairman.

Flexibility, Creativity, and Patience!
This is an exciting period of change we are entering. Be flexible, be creative, be patient.
Availability of rooms scheduled may need to change from the originally scheduled rooms, but the staff will always be working to accommodate meetings. Currently, we have only a general idea of when (and how) the different parts of the building will be remodeled and/or added on to. As we move further in the process, secure a contractor, receive and accept bids, and approach each
phase of the project, we'll have an even better idea what rooms are available and when.
The
online calendar will continually be updated with the current room information for each meeting.

Building Update - A new boiler!
How can stainless steel and cast iron be green?Northminster’s remodeling has begun and we’re off to a quick start for two reasons. We have received early gifts towards individuals’ Open To the Future pledges and the urgency to replace the Education wing’s steam boiler that failed last winter. Our previous boiler was steam (1981) but it had developed a crack that was going to be expensive to repair. The cost of the proposed repair, coupled with the need to replace our heating source for future building growth led the committee to the decision to buy early and get this going before it became really cold outside.
How is it green?
The HydroTherm KN-20 is more efficient because it is a hot water furnace, which will need less gas to provide heat through out the Education wing than the steam boiler it replaced. This brings us two benefits, a potentially lower gas bill for Education wing area, and a Knox Room that will not be over -heated due to the boiler that was below it.
We asked Jim Mann to further explain about how this boiler works but he went on for six more pages. So if you want more technical information or even to see the boiler, call him, but be ready for lots of information!
