You have probably heard of eharmony.com.  They are the folks who do match making for singles.  Now they have launched a new program for married folks as well.  The web site does on-line marriage enrichment.  You can take a “test” and it gives you feedback on the state of your marriage.  If your spouse takes the test as well they will identify areas where you might need better communication.

I don’t think eharmony will ever replace face to face marriage counseling.  I do think it might prove helpful for certain people-

  • those who have a spouse or partner who will not go for counseling

  • those who just don’t have time to deal with their marriage in the midst of children, jobs, etc.

  • those who are too shy to talk to a stranger

  • those who simply need encouragement to talk and focus on marital issues

Eharmony gave me free enrollment as a pastor to try and convince me to enroll the whole church.  I am not going to do that.  But I did find their articles helpful and their advice sound.  They might give you a starting point to raise the issue with your partner, whatever the issue might be.

Marriage is hard work, for everyone.  Use what ever means necessary to get the support you need to do that work.  It really is worth it.
